Dr Julian J Orton (Partner)

Dr Julian J Orton joined the practice as a new partner in 1995 and became senior partner in 2002. He reduced to ¾ time in April 2006.

He is married with a son and comes from Surbiton, Surrey.  He went to school locally at King’s College School, Wimbledon, where he obtained a junior scholarship.

He did his medical training at Manchester University, graduating in 1986, and then worked in Manchester for two years before returning to London in 1988 to embark on a career in hospital medicine.  Over the next two years, he undertook several teaching hospital posts in medicine and obtained the specialist qualification for doctors training to become a hospital consultant physician.  It was during this time that he developed his interest in cardiology (in particular, coronary heart disease and its prevention) and diabetes.  He also had an increasing interest in general practice, and in 1990/91 decided to switch careers, necessitating time in other hospital specialties relevant to general practice.  These included accident and emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry and paediatrics. 

He completed his GP training in a practice in Fetcham in 1993.

Dr Orton is the practice lead for child safeguarding, and deputy lead for adult safeguarding and the Registered Manager for the practice with the Care Quality Commission (health and social care inspectorate).  He is also clinical lead for diabetes.  Dr Orton represents the practice with our local NHS commissioners, Surrey Downs CCG, our GP federation GPHP Ltd and Epsom Primary Care Network.

Dr Jonathan Holbrook 

Dr Jonathan Holbrook joined the practice as a partner in 1997, taking over Dr Hayward’s list. Dr Holbrook retired from the partnership on the 4th April 2019 but continues to work at Spring Street SUrgery He is married, has three children and lives in Surbiton. He grew up in Newcastle–Upon-Tyne and was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle. 

He graduated from Manchester University in 1984.  His subsequent hospital posts included obstetrics and gynaecology, geriatric medicine, general medicine, accident and emergency medicine, orthopaedics and general surgery.  Some of these posts were undertaken locally at Epsom Hospital.  He took a career break at one point, returning to medicine in 1991. 

He spent his year in GP training at a practice in Leatherhead before becoming a GP in 1994.  Following a number of locum posts in the area, Dr Holbrook joined the practice as a full-time GP Principal. 

His areas of medical interest include elderly medicine, dermatology and minor surgery.  He runs a fortnightly clinic for minor operations at the practice. He also performs joint and soft tissue injections.

Dr Holbrook currently works as a locum GP and covers the minor surgery clinic.

Dr Lara Morris

Dr Morris Joined Spring Street Surgery in June 2019, she works one and a half days and is job sharing with Dr Orton

Dr Sumathy Suntharalingam (Partner)

Dr Sumathy Suntharalingam joined the Practice as a part-time self-employed General Practitioner in December 2004, covering Dr Muthu’s maternity leave and became a partner in March 2010.

Dr Suntharalingam is from Redhill and was educated in Oakwood School, Horley and Reigate College. She did her medical training at the Charing Cross and Westminster Campus of Imperial College, London, graduating in 2000. Her first post was in Haywards Heath, then going on to work in Margate. She underwent her 3 year GP vocational training scheme at Crawley and East Surrey Hospital. This involved working in Accident and Emergency, psychiatry, obstetrics & gynaecology and paediatrics. She spent the final year undergoing GP training in a General Practice in Crawley, completing this in November 2004.

Dr Suntharalingam runs a monthly contraception clinic to fit intra-uterine contraceptive devices and implants. She is also the practice lead for Adult Safeguarding and prescribing. She is the deputy lead for child safeguarding.

She works 3 days and job-shares with Dr Nishanthi Gunasekera.

Dr Nishanthi Gunasekera

Dr Nishanthi Gunasekera joined Spring Street Surgery in March of 2017 as a salaried GP and in addition works as a self-employed GP.

Dr Gunasekera lives locally in Epsom with her husband and daughter. She spent her early childhood in Lancashire, attending Westholme School, Blackburn, before moving down South with her family and completing her education at Brentwood School, Essex. 

Dr Gunasekera obtained her medical degree from Leeds University in 2009. She then moved to Oxford for two years undertaking her first posts at the Churchill and Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals. A further year was spent within Charing Cross hospital in Hammersmith London, before deciding to choose a career in General Practice.  

Her three year General Practice vocational training was completed in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells, West Kent. Here she undertook specialist training in Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Accident and Emergency Medicine, and Peadiatrics. She joined the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2016.  

She currently works part time and job shares with Dr Sumathy Suntharalingam.

Dr Lavanya Mohan

Dr Lavanya Mohan joined the practice as a part-time salaried General Practitioner in December 2017. In addition, she also works as a self-employed GP in south-west London.

Dr Mohan is from Worcester Park and was educated locally at Sutton High School. Subsequently, she trained at Imperial College School of Medicine, in London, graduating in 2012.

She completed her Foundation Training at Medway Maritime Hospital in Kent, and Kingston Hospital in Surrey. Her three year GP Vocational Training Scheme was completed at East Surrey Hospital where she worked in Accident & Emergency, Paediatrics, ENT, Cardiology, Psychiatry and Endocrinology. Dr Mohan completed her training at a GP practice Crawley in 2017.

Dr Kate Rusk

Dr Rusk joined the practice as a part-time salaried General Practitioner in January 2017.  She lives in Epsom with her husband and two children. She has taken over Dr Holbrooks list from 4th April 2019.

Dr Rusk grew up in Epsom and trained at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, London, graduating in 2001. She went on to do her postgraduate medical training in Sussex, before qualifying as a GP in 2006.  After moving back to Epsom in 2009 she continued to work as a salaried GP in Sussex but decided to make the move to a position closer to home due to the needs of her growing family.
